Workshop overview
Many people experience trauma of varying types throughout their lives, whether in the past or more recently. A trauma response can be triggered by a specific incident, or a prolonged and repeated event, and may be re-ignited by experiencing a health crisis, being abused, neglected and/or injured, a loss of loved one, and/or change in life circumstances, grief and/or the onset of dementia.
The Trauma Informed Care workshop is specifically tailored to empower the CHSP and home care workforce to understand the impact of trauma and deliver care that is culturally safe, trauma aware and healing informed.
Who should attend?
This workshop is ideal for staff across a range of levels, delivering CHSP services and delivery of care in home care and community settings.
The outcomes are:

- discover the unique impact of trauma on the aging mind and body
- uncover the profound relationship between traumatic events, grief, and its consequential effect on older people
- develop skills to recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma across physical, emotional, and behavioural domains
- gain practical insights into the seven targeted strategies specifically designed to aid older individuals affected by trauma
- navigate triggers for re-experienced trauma, undisclosed life events, and the specific trauma experienced by veterans, migrants, asylum seekers, and First Nations peoples
- learn vital self-protection strategies and learn about managing client self-disclosure
