In May I had the pleasure of attending the World Ageing Festival in Singapore, where Australian providers showed they are truly leading the way in innovation in aged care. Hosted by Ageing Asia, this global ageing event gathered more than 5,000 participants, 100 notable speakers and 100 diverse exhibitors. It united representatives from 50 countries to explore the latest innovations and industry showcases.

With winter now upon us, the first half of 2024 has been exceptionally busy for sector leaders as they absorbed further change. While the introduction of the new Aged Care Act has been delayed, further details and discussions around its practical implementation will be the dominant discourse.

Anzac Day is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices our veterans have made for our freedom – both past and present. As we honour these brave individuals, we are reminded of the solemn reality of war and the profound impact it has on people and communities during times of conflict and beyond.

The Sector Performance Report (Jul-Sep 2023) published by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is worth reading if you haven’t looked at it yet.

This year has begun as an immensely busy period for our sector and for Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA), and in the coming months we will once again be tested as we navigate the impacts of major aged care legislative change.
