Essential Knowledge on Restrictive Practices in Home Care Settings

Workshop overview

This workshop offers practical strategies for managing restrictive practices in home care settings. Participants will gain an understanding of restrictive practices, their implications, and the importance of person-centred care. Through interactive discussions and case study analyses, participants will learn to identify, categorise, and understand the process of implementing restrictive practices appropriately.

Participants will explore relevant legislation, and ethical standards surrounding restrictive practices, ensuring compliance, and the maintenance of the dignity and autonomy of older people. Through practical examples and step-by-step instructions, participants learn best practices for assessing older people’s needs and developing behavioural support plans that prioritise well-being.

Through case studies and small group discussions, participants will explore restrictive practices and learn how to promote holistic care in home care settings. By encouraging a culture of person-centred care, participants can further enhance their skills to support the quality of life and safety of older people, as well as their mental wellbeing.
