To mark Aged Care Employee Day on Thursday 7 August, Tom Symondson, CEO of national peak body Ageing Australia, will visit aged care homes across Melbourne’s inner south-east to personally thank aged care staff for their dedication, compassion, and professionalism.
Mr Symondson will be joined by local Members of Parliament at several stops throughout the day to recognise the vital contribution aged care workers make in the lives of older Australians.
“Aged Care Employee Day is a chance to pause and celebrate the nurses, personal care workers, chefs, cleaners, lifestyle coordinators and so many others who go above and beyond every day to support older people,” said Mr Symondson.

Now in its seventh year, Aged Care Employee Day is a national celebration of the aged care workforce. This year’s theme, Thanks for Caring, invites all Australians to show appreciation for those working in aged care.
“Whether it’s providing clinical care, preparing meals or simply holding someone’s hand, aged care workers change lives every day. This day is about saying thank you,” Mr Symondson said.
As part of the celebrations, Ageing Australia is also recognising outstanding individuals through its national You Are ACE! Awards, which spotlight the passion and innovation of workers across the sector.
“This year we received over 500 nominations from across the country, from rural aged care teams in Queensland to dedicated individuals working in retirement living in New South Wales,” Mr Symondson said.
“Our 52 finalists truly reflect the heart of aged care: rising stars, compassionate frontline workers and visionary leaders who are shaping a better future for older Australians.”
