Advocacy into action

How the Workforce Hub is supporting aged care's future workforce

For years, workforce challenges have remained one of the most significant issues facing aged care providers across Australia.

From attracting new workers and retaining experienced staff to strengthening clinical capability and supporting regional services, building a sustainable workforce continues to be one of Ageing Australia’s highest advocacy priorities.

That advocacy is now being translated into practical action through the launch of Ageing Australia’s new Workforce Hub – a central platform connecting providers, job seekers and current employees with workforce programs, training, resources and recruitment support designed specifically for the aged care sector.

The Workforce Hub represents more than a new digital platform. It is a practical response to many of the sector’s current priorities Ageing Australia has championed on behalf of members.

“For many providers, accessing workforce initiatives can be challenging when information and support are spread across multiple places,” says Belinda Allen, Chief Member Experience Officer, Ageing Australia.

“The Workforce Hub brings these opportunities together into one central destination, making it easier for providers to access practical tools, funded programs and resources that support workforce attraction, development and retention. It’s a tangible example of how Ageing Australia’s advocacy is being translated into practical support for our members and the broader sector.”

A central destination for workforce support

Providers have consistently told Ageing Australia that accessing workforce information can be difficult, with programs, resources and initiatives often dispersed across multiple organisations and websites.

The new Workforce Hub addresses this challenge by providing one central, online destination where providers can explore workforce initiatives, access recruitment support, discover learning opportunities and connect with practical resources that strengthen their workforce.

Designed to support organisations of all sizes, the platform brings together workforce information in a way that is simple, accessible and relevant to the day-to-day realities of delivering aged care.

Supporting workforce attraction and retention

Growing the aged care workforce begins with attracting new people to the sector while creating workplaces where employees can build long-term careers.

The Workforce Hub supports workforce attraction by showcasing employment opportunities, career pathways and funded workforce initiatives that promote aged care as a rewarding profession. At the same time, it helps providers retain staff by connecting them with professional development opportunities that build confidence, capability and career progression.

Programs available through the Hub include the Aged Care Transition to Practice Program, Gerontological Nursing Program and Migrant Immersion Program, supporting workers at different stages of their careers while helping providers develop skilled, confident teams.

Strengthening skills and career pathways

Accessible education and training remain fundamental to a sustainable workforce.

The Workforce Hub provides access to a growing range of learning opportunities, from workforce readiness and cultural capability training to clinical education and micro-credentials. By bringing these pathways together, the platform supports continuous professional development while helping providers build workforce capability and improve care outcomes.

Importantly, the Hub recognises that workforce development is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether someone is considering a career in aged care, transitioning into the sector or advancing their clinical expertise, the platform provides resources that support every stage of the workforce journey.

Supporting regional and remote providers

Regional, rural and remote communities continue to experience some of the sector’s greatest workforce pressures.

The Workforce Hub supports these providers by promoting initiatives specifically designed to strengthen regional workforce capacity, including the Regional, Rural and Remote Home Care Workforce Support Program. By improving access to workforce programs and resources regardless of location, the platform helps ensure providers across Australia can benefit from practical workforce support.

Turning advocacy into outcomes

A sustainable workforce requires more than policy reform alone. It requires practical solutions that help providers recruit, develop and retain the people who deliver care every day.

As the aged care sector continues to evolve, so too must the way workforce support is delivered. The Workforce Hub demonstrates how advocacy can extend beyond influencing policy to creating practical solutions that strengthen providers, support career development and ultimately improve outcomes for older Australians.

Because when it comes to workforce sustainability, advocacy delivers its greatest value when it leads to action.
